Davis’s walk-off single in the 9th gives Baysox an 8-7 win

Baysox FieldGlynn Davis’ walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Bowie Baysox (29-26) to an 8-7 come-from-behind win over the Altoona Curve (29-23) on Friday night at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.

In the ninth, Austin Wynns led off with a double, advanced to third after a pair of walks and scored on Davis’ RBI single to give the Baysox the win.

The run was charged to Altoona RHP Buddy Borden (0.1 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 2 BB) who was dealt the loss and falls to 4-1 on the year.

LHP Garrett Cleavinger (2.0 IP, 4 K) earned the win for Bowie to improve to 1-2.

Trailing 7-3, the Baysox tied things at seven apiece with a four-run seventh and all four runs in the inning came with two outs. Three singles loaded the bases before Wynns plated a pair with a two-run single, a run scored on a wild pitch and throwing error charged to Curve C Jin-De Jhang and Stevie Wilkerson beat out an infield single to knock home a run.

The four runs were charged to LHP Jared Lakind (1.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 K).

Wilkerson’s three-run shot in the fourth put the Baysox on the board and opened up a 3-0 lead. The home run was Wilkerson’s fourth of the season and his second in as many nights.

Curve starter Yeudy Garcia (n/d) surrendered the three runs on six hits while walking three and fanning five in five innings of work.

Altoona tied things at three apiece with a three-run fifth as Pablo Reyes delivered an RBI double in the inning and Kevin Kramer came through with an RBI single to score Reyes.

Jerrick Suiter’s three-run homer off of RHP Miguel Castro in the top of the sixth gave the Curve a 6-3 advantage for the time being.

Six of the seven Altoona runs were charged to Castro (4.0 IP, 6 R, 6 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 2 K).

Kramer’s sac fly in the top of the seventh plated Kevin Newman and opened up a 7-3 lead for the visitors.

Baysox starter Tanner Scott (n/d) allowed three hits over three shutout innings.

Six different Baysox had multi-hit games: Davis (2-4, RBI, R), Adrian Marin (3-5, R), Tucker Nathans (3-5, 2B, R), Garabez Rosa (2-5, R), Wilkerson (3-4, HR, 4 RBI, R) and Wynns (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R).

The series continues on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. as RHP Matthew Grimes (2-4, 3.86) will be on the bump for Bowie against Altoona RHP Alex McRae (3-1, 3.60).
