Squirrels defeat Baysox in squeaker

Baysox FieldGarabez Rosa dramatically tied the ballgame with a two-out, RBI-single in the ninth inning, but the Baysox could not get over the hump. In the end, a two-out Richmond rally in the 11th inning ended it as the Baysox fell 3-2 in the series opener at The Diamond.
All night the Baysox battled back. In the seventh inning, trailing 1-0, Jeff Kemp hit his first home run of the year on a shot down the left field line to tie the game at 1-apiece. Later in the ninth inning the table was set for Rosa.
Austin Wynns singled with one down. Aderlin Rodriguez followed by ripping a double to the wall in left-center field. With the outfield playing deep already, centerfielder Slade Heathcott got it in quickly and the relay beat Wynns to the plate for the second out. Rodriguez was lifted for a pinch runner in Jay Gonzalez who then scored on Rosa’s dramatic single to right field.
All night Bowie got great pitching. Starter Brandon Barker was sharp, working six innings while allowing just one run while striking out six. Tim Berry allowed a run in two innings and Ryan Meisinger retired all six men he faced.
Richmond got the game-winning tally with a two-out rally in the 11th inning. Carlos Garcia grounded a single to right field and Jeff Arnold walked. Up came veteran Rando Moreno and his base hit to center field won the game.
The Baysox are back at it with a doubleheader Friday, May 5th at 5:35 p.m. with John Means getting the start in game one followed by Lucas Long in game two. Coverage begins 20-minutes before first pitch on baysox.com, wnav.com and via the MILB, Tune-In Radio and WNAV Apps.
