Baysox fall to Binghamton in 6-2 loss

Baysox FieldA two-run sixth for Binghamton proved costly for the Bowie Baysox (22-21) in a 6-2 loss to the Rumble Ponies (22-15) on Sunday afternoon at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.

In the afore-mentioned sixth, L.J. Mazzilli led off with a double, advanced to third on a bunt single and scored on a throwing error charged to Baysox catcher Yermin Mercedes to give Binghamton the lead. Tomas Nido’s RBI single later in the inning extended the lead for the visitors to 4-2.

Baysox starter John Means (2-4) allowed the four runs on eight hits to go along with a walk and three strikeouts in six innings of work.

The Rumble Ponies took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second as a walk and a bunt single put two men on with two outs before both runners scored on Jio Mier’s two-run double.

In the home half of the third, Sharlon Schoop delivered an RBI triple to plate Erick Salcedo and scored on the same play courtesy of a throwing error charged to Binghamton SS Luis Guillorme to tie things at two apiece for the Baysox.

Binghamton starter Casey Delgado (3-4) gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits to go along with two walks and four strikeouts in 5.0 IP. Three Rumble Ponies relievers combined to throw four scoreless innings.

Cody Decker’s two-run shot in the top of the eighth off of RHP Jesus Liranzo (2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, K) made it a 6-2 game in favor of the Rumble Ponies.

RHP Ryan Meisinger (1.0 IP, 2 H, K) had a scoreless outing in relief for Bowie.

DJ Stewart (2-4) delivered a multi-hit game for manager Gary Kendall’s squad.

The Baysox will open a four-game set with the Hartford Yard Goats on Monday night at Prince George’s Stadium. RHP David Hess (5-2, 4.54) will be on the bump for the Baysox against Yard Goats RHP Ryan Castellani (2-4, 6.37).
