Arundel High School

Arundel High School (1001 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, MD 21054) needs adult volunteers to conduct mock job interviews with 11th grade students on Dec. 8 & 9, 2016. Students have been discussing topics such as: appropriate dress, eye contact, oral communication, courtesy, assertiveness, and resume writing in their English classes. The program is designed to give students a chance to practice their newly learned skills by offering a one-on-one interview with an adult from outside the school; we are simply looking for people who are willing to give some time to helping this generation become more competent in their interviewing skills, and no experience is necessary. Box of Rain Foundation

Box of Rain’s mission for our kids is to nurture self-esteem and a sense of self-worth through accomplishment; develop life skills that strengthen character and opportunities for social engagement; encourage civic responsibility that leads to positive contributions to our community; and create pathways to independence and career success. Volunteers are needed to: 1. serve as mentors in our Charting Careers, Maritime Summer Camp, Step It Up Kids Fitness, Build a Boat, and other programs throughout the year; 2. work at or host fundraising events throughout the year; 3. serve as instructors in our programs; 4. provide transportation to and from programs; and, 5. Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS)

CoCoRaHS is a non-profit community-based network of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds throughout the U.S. and Canada that works together to measure and map precipitation using inexpensive measurement tools, stressing training and education, and utilizing an interactive web site. Data is provided for natural resource, education, and research applications. Volunteers of all ages are needed (those under 18 need a guardian) to collect and report data about precipitation with measurement tools at their homes which is reported daily to an interactive web site. Junior League of Annapolis

The Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community in Anne Arundel County, MD; its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. Volunteer opportunities, supporting children and families, include those involving Empowering Women, Helping Hands, and a variety of Done In A Day projects. Other opportunities include helping with fundraising and serving on the Board of Directors. Historic Annapolis Foundation

Historic Annapolis Foundation needs volunteers for a variety of tasks during the holiday season: 1. 5–7:30 p.m. and 7:30 – 10 p.m,, Dec. 1, 8, and 15, 2016, Museum Store–Volunteers are needed to greet, host, and help shoppers; 2.  8 a.m. – 12 p.m., Dec.. 11, 2016, Muffins with Santa – This holiday children’s event with Santa and Mrs. Clause is held in the James Brice House which is transformed to delight!  Volunteers will help with holiday crafts, present-making stations, and hosting the muffins and hot chocolate! Volunteers are also needed year round to help greet the public and assist retail staff at the Museum Store, and to function as docents in the Museum, William Paca House, James Brice House, and Hogshead. Maryland Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division

Are you interested in learning about your rights as a consumer? Would you like to help other Maryland consumers resolve their complaints with retail businesses, landlords or health care providers? Volunteers and interns are trained and work 8 – 10 hours per week at the Consumer Protection Division at 200 St. Paul Place, Baltimore, as complaint mediators and to provide information over the Division’s consumer hotline. Maryland CASA Association

Maryland CASA Association is the state organization for Maryland’s Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Programs. In partnership with our fifteen affiliated CASA programs, we work to ensure every victim of child abuse and neglect their right to grow up in safe and permanent homes. We are seeking CASA volunteers whose primary responsibility is to serve as the “eyes and ears” of the court, gathering information from the child, his/her biological parents, foster parents, teachers, counselors and others. Based on that information, the CASA makes recommendations to the judge as to what is in the child’s best interest. For more information contact Kendal Braun at [email protected] or 410-828-6761. Wreaths Across America, Annapolis National Cemetery, December 17, 2016

Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, was formed as an extension of the Arlington Wreath Project in 1992.  Last year, Annapolis National Cemetery received over 1000 donated wreaths from individuals, organizations and businesses.  There are approximately 3000 graves at Annapolis National Cemetery and the goal this year is to have a wreath for each gravesite. The Annapolis community can make this happen.  Wreath donations are being sought: Visit web site at: www.wreathsacrossamerica.org to sponsor a wreath for $15; designate the wreath to the Annapolis National Cemetery by clicking on “Events|Locations” and choosing the Annapolis National Cemetery when searching under Maryland and zipcode 21401. Also, Volunteers are needed the day of the ceremony to lay wreaths on the graves. The Y in Central Maryland

The Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot Charity 5K is a family event held from 6:00 – 10:30 am, Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 24, 2016, that raises urgently needed funds to support children and families in Central Maryland. The Y has a total of seven 5k’s across the region: Baltimore City, Arnold, Bel Air, Ellicott City, Towson, Westminster, and Perry Hall.  We have a variety of opportunities associated with each location: 1.
