2 critically injured in weekend motorcycle accident in Severn

traffic-accident iconOn October 15, 2016 at approximately 10:30 AM, officers responded to a motorcycle collision on Quarterfield Road at Westphalia Drive in Severn. Investigation revealed that a Hyundai attempted to make a left turn from Quarterfield Road onto Westphalia Drive into the path of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling on Quarterfield Road. The collision occurred within the intersection and both the motorcycle driver and passenger were ejected onto the roadway. Both motorcycle riders were taken to Shock Trauma with critical injuries. The Hyundai driver was taken to Baltimore/Washington Medical Center with minor injuries.

The primary cause of the crash appears to be the Hyundai driver’s failure to yield right of way while making a left turn. Neither speed nor alcohol is a contributing factor. Both motorcycle riders were wearing DOT approved helmets. The Traffic Safety Section is handing the investigation and any charges are pending review by the State’s Attorney. Anyone who may have witnessed this accident is asked to call the investigator, Corporal Wilson 410-222-8753.
