Crighton dazzles despite 4-3 Baysox loss

Baysox 2016Akron answered both of Bowie’s run scoring innings with rallies of their own and the Baysox fell short on Saturday evening by a 4-3 final score. The loss was a fifth consecutive for Bowie.

The Baysox grabbed the lead in the third inning. Adrian Marin walked and went to second base on a single to right by Drew Dosch. Chris Dickerson then hit a soft fly into shallow left field and Marin hustled around to score the game’s first run.

Akron answered back quickly. The RubberDucks put together a big two-out rally to plate three runs to grab the lead. The highlight was the game-tying RBI-double from Eric Stamets.

But Bowie bounced back to tie the game in the sixth. Garabez Rosa and Quincy Latimore singled to open the frame. With runners at the corners, a wild pitch scored Rosa and brought Latimore to second. Quincy then stole third base with one down and scored on a Wynston Sawyer sacrifice fly to tie the game.

But again Akron had the answer. Luigi Rodriguez walked on four pitches and scored on a double to right field by Mark Mathias. The RBI-double was the first Eastern League hit for Mathias in his third league game.

Jason Garcia allowed four runs in six innings in the loss. Stefan Crighton worked two dominant innings, striking out the first five batters he faced to keep Bowie close. The Baysox did not get a runner into scoring position in the final three innings.

The Baysox continue the final series of 2016 with John Means getting the start on Sunday, September 4th. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. Coverage begins 20-minutes before first pitch on 1430-AM WNAV and 99.9 FM in Annapolis.
