The Giver explores a “utopian” future of sameness, where young Jonas inherits an unusual career: to receive and keep the memories of his community’s past. Throughout lessons with his elder predecessor, The Giver teaches Jonas of love, war, and all of life’s unknown joys and pains. As his oppressive world continues unchanged, Jonas must decide whether to keep these new secrets or upend his community. This modern classic explores the risks and rewards of a full life.

In Hamlet, the prince of Denmark returns home from school to find his family life in ruins—his father dead, his mother remarried, and his uncle (now step-father) ruling the country. When his father’s ghost appears with dire announcements, Hamlet struggles to redefine his life and find his way forward. Jason King Jones, Artistic Director of National Players directs his ninth production for the company with Hamlet.

This performance is supported in part by a grant the Chesapeake Arts Center received from the Maryland State Arts Council. To discover more about Maryland State Arts Council grants and how they impact Maryland’s arts sector, visit msac.org.”
