The Londontowne Symphony Orchestra has announced its thirteenth season of bringing affordable classical and light classical music to the Annapolis area, and it includes some interesting surprises. They will have their annual Halloween “Spooky Sounds, Haunted Harmonies” concert and their annual “Rising Stars” concert, but special treats will be collaborative concerts with the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra, the chorus of the Christian Area School, and the Annapolis Shakespeare Theatre. An entertaining season indeed, planned by Anna Binneweg, the Music Director/Conductor of the LSO, who was last year’s winner of the Annie Award for the Performing Arts presented by the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County.

September 18, 2016. “The Classical Legacy”. A concert of beloved classics will be held at Riva Trace Baptist Church at 3 PM. Music will include Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1 (“Classical Symphony”), Strauss’ Horn Concerto No. 1 with James Nickel from the National Symphony Orchestra, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7.

October 16, 2016. The annual Halloween concert “Spooky Sounds, Haunted Harmonies” will be at Annapolis High School at 3 PM, and it will be a side-by-side concert with the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra (CYSO). Music will include Marschner’s Overture to Der Vampyr, Ravel’s Tzigane, Khachaturian’s Masquerade Suite, Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain, and Berlioz’s “March to the Scaffold & Dream of a Witches’ Sabbath” from Symphonie Fantastique.

January 28, 2017. “Poetry, Song and Exaltation”. A concert at the Upper School Campus of the Annapolis Area Christian School in collaboration with the school’s chorus. Music will include Handel’s Coronation Anthem No. 1: “Zadok the Priest”, Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs, and Schumann’s Symphony No. 2.

March 11, 2017. The 4th annual “Rising Stars” concert will be at Woods Memorial Church at 7:30 PM. Music will include Verdi’s Overture to Nabucco, and it will feature the three top high school winners of LSO’s annual Young Person’s Competition with each winner playing a movement of a concerto with the orchestra.

June 3, 2017. “Shakespeare as Muse”. A concert in collaboration with the Annapolis Shakespeare Theatre at Woods Memorial Church at 7:30 PM. Music will include selections from Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, selections from Sibelius’ The Tempest, and Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture.

The LSO is central Maryland’s community orchestra made up of local professionals, teachers, military musicians, exceptional amateurs and students. They play for the love of making high-quality music for themselves and for their listeners.
