On August 28, 2016, at approximately 5:16 a.m., officers responded to the 1700 block of Sage Brush Court in Severn for a check subject. Upon arrival, they met with two male residents of the house, who advised that an acquaintance, Jeffrey David Crook, was banging on the outside of the house with a brick in his hand. They told Crook he was not welcome at the residence and Crook refused to leave. Crook then went into the backyard and forced his way into the house through the rear sliding glass door. Once inside the residence, Crook assaulted one of the males by punching him in the face.

When officers arrived, they located Crook in an upstairs bedroom. Crook was rambling incoherently and refused officers commands and he began to actively resist their attempts to place him in handcuffs. During an intense struggle, Crook bit an officer on the forearm causing a break in the skin. The officers, then deployed a departmental Taser striking Crook, however it had no effect. Additional officers soon arrived on scene and assisted with taking Cook into custody.

Crook was transported to a local hospital for precautionary treatment due to the Taser deployment. The officer was also taken to a local hospital where he was treated for injuries resulting from the bite. Crook was released from the hospital and transported to Western for processing. He was charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Assault on Police, Home Invasion, Burglary, and other related charges.
