Annapolis Green, Inc.

Our mission is to connect, educate and motivate Greater Annapolis to protect the environment and beautify our surroundings for a strong and thriving way of life. Annapolis Green connects the community by communicating an environmental message that is meaningful, positive and motivational, engaging residents, businesses, non-profits, government agencies, and visitors. Our goal is to make the Annapolis area as Green as possible – a place where sustainability is a way of life and a source of pride – by accelerating the work of the legions of dedicated environmentalists and celebrating successes – in person, on the radio, online, and in everyday life. Big Brothers and Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake

Want an excuse to be a kid again?  Play catch?  Fly kites? Most volunteers start because they want to give back and help a child.  Soon, they discover being a Big Brother or Big Sister is one of the best experiences of their life! As a Big, you are simply a friend.  We ensure your experience fits your lifestyle, and we have something for everyone.  Busy people of all ages can get involved.  You can choose the program that works best for you.

Volunteers spend time with a child (age 7-15) a few times per month, a few hours each time, over the course of one year.  Big Brothers Big Sisters provides a monthly list of free or low-cost activities to give you ideas and are with you every step of the way. Kegs and Corks Craft Beer & Maryland Wine Festival, Sat., August 20, 2016

Volunteers are needed for two shifts (10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and 2:30-6:00 p.m.) to help in a variety positions for the 5th Annual Kegs and Corks Festival at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds on Sat., Aug. 20, 2016. Old Mill Youth Association

Old Mill Youth Association sponsors Old Mill Cheer! We are a non-profit youth sports organization formed in 2007. We serve the Old Mill area and all surrounding Communities. We are committed to the betterment of making youth sports a fun experience! Our youth sports program is always looking for volunteers to assist in a variety of areas associated with our program such as coaching, concession help, equipment management, running the grill, uniform distribution – our needs are endless! The Light House, Run for The Light House, Sun., Sept. 25, 2016

Volunteers are needed to assist on race day starting prior to registration at 7:30 a.m., on Sun., Sept. 25, 2016 for the Annual Annapolis Run for The Light House. The 6th annual Annapolis Run for The Light House provides scenic half-marathon, 5K and 1. 25 mi. walks along the trails of Quiet Waters Park and through the beautiful Chesapeake Bay-front community of Hillsmere Shores. The race start is 8:00 a.m., for the Half Marathon, 7:45 a.m. for the 5K Jogging Joe Shafran Memorial Run, and 9:00 for the Anniversary Walk. The mission of The Light House is to help rebuild lives with compassion by providing shelter and services to prevent homelessness and empower people as they transition towards self-sufficiency.  Volunteers are needed for a variety of duties associated with the food program, children’s programs, front desk help and adult education programs. Pro bono professional volunteers are also needed with specialized skills such as accounting, dentistry, licensed therapists, law, and carpentry. Lifeline 100 Century Ride & Community Health Fair at Kinder Farm Park, Sun., Oct. 16, 2016

Bicycle Advocates for Annapolis & Anne Arundel County (BikeAAA) in partnership with Anne Arundel County Police and Recreation & Parks Dept. is hosting the Lifeline100. There will be 100, 56, 15 (trail only) mile rides and a free children’s bike rodeo and family fun ride; starting times begin at 7:00 a.m., Sun., Oct. 16, 2016 and are staggered throughout the day for various rides and events. Bike routes will wind throughout scenic Anne Arundel County including downtown Annapolis, the Severn River, southern Anne Arundel County, BWI/Marshall airport and the B&A Trail. There will also be a free, all-day, “Make Health Happen” community health fair by the Healthy Anne Arundel Coalition that day, all at Kinder Farm Park in Millersville; the fair will offer health screenings, fun activities for kids, families and more.  Volunteers, sponsors, and participants are being sought for this event. Volunteers are needed to help with parking, registration, rest stops, SAG support, at the Health Fair, children’s rodeo, and more.  Civic or high school age community service groups such as the scouts are also welcome to volunteer. Rebuilding Together Anne Arundel County

Rebuilding Together is announcing its 9th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Crofton Country Club.  Register at: http://rebuildingtogetheraac.org/Golf_Tournament.html.  We are also seeking several Volunteers to help us out at the Tournament. For more information and to volunteer, Contact us at: [email protected]. We are currently assessing the open applications, and we will have homes of neighbors in need to renovate this fall. Contact us via email if you would like to volunteer to rebuild on Saturdays in October and November. Please send your name, phone number and dates available this fall to the email address above. Our completed renovations are not only life-altering for the families, but they help everyone in the community.  We strengthen neighborhoods by reducing foreclosures and abandoned houses, and by keeping long-time residents in their homes, an asset to their community!  

St. Mary’s Church English as a Second Language (ESL) Program

St Mary’s ESL Program needs volunteers to teach English one night a week to adult ESL students for the Sept–May school year.  The 8 levels of classes are held on Tues., Wed., and Thurs. evenings, 7:00-8:45 p.m., Sept. 13 – Dec. 10, 2016 at St. Mary’s High School in downtown Annapolis.  Interested volunteers are encouraged to attend the Teacher Training Session scheduled for 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Sat., August 27, 2016, at St John Newmann’s Church on Bestgate Road. Each teacher is asked to commit to one class/one night a week and will be part of a teaching team. Spanish-language ability is preferred for beginner classes only. Those with ESL or any teaching experience as well as those with a keen interest in working with students to help them learn/perfect their English are encouraged to apply.
