Harmans bus accident injures 17

An accident involving a bus injured seventeen people Saturday evening in Harmans.

Firefighters responded to the area of Dorsey Road and Shipley Avenue just after 8:40 p.m. They arrived to find a two-vehicle collision involving a bus and a passenger car. As a result of the collision, the bus left the roadway, went through a guardrail and into the woods. The bus did not overturn as was reported by some media.

Most of the patients suffered minor injuries. However, two patients who were the occupants of the car, a 17-year-old male a 20-year-old female, were transported to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with injuries that were possibly serious. Eleven patients were transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center and four to Howard County General all with minor injuries. Six additional occupants of the bus declined transport to the hospital.

Anne Arundel County firefighters were assisted by firefighters from BWI Thurgood Marshal Airport and the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services. The Medical Ambulance Buses from Anne Arundel and Howard Counties handled a majority of the transports.

All fire department personnel cleared the scene by 10 p.m. and it was turned over to the Anne Arundel County Police. There is no additional information available at this time.
