BBaysox 2016aysox starter Matthew Grimes surrendered two first inning runs but then shut down the Reading Fightin Phils over seven innings as the Baysox recovered from one of the worst losses in club history for a 7-2 win Saturday night.

It was Reading who struck first for the one and only time in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Andrew Pullin reached on a throwing error by Baysox first baseman Joey Terdoslabvich and moved to second base on a Jorge Alfaro single. Rhys Hoskins walked to load the bases before Jake Fox singled to center field to plate two runs and give the Fightin Phils a 2-0 lead.

The Baysox got one run back in the top of the second inning when Chris O’Brien hit a solo home run off Reading starter John Richy to make the score 2-1.

Bowie’s first lead of the game came in the top of the sixth inning. Terdoslavich hit a one out single to right field and moved to third base on a two-out single from Austin Wynns and error Hoskins. Adrian Marin walked to load the bases before Joely Rodriguez replaced Richy on the mound and surrendered a two-RBI single to Drew Dosch that put the Baysox up 3-2.

The Baysox added to the lead in the top of the seventh inning as Garabez Rosa hit a lead-off infield single and Henry Urrutia reached on a force attempt and fielding error by Reading’s Jesmuel Valentin. Rosa then scored on a wild pitch before Urrutia moved to third base on a Terdoslavich groundout. Gergory Infante replaced Rodriguez on the mound, but another Reading error allowed Urrutia to score to put the Baysox up 5-2.

Bowie tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth inning against Reading reliever Miguel Nunez to make the final score 7-2. O’Brien drew a lead-off walk and pinch-runner Quincy Latimore moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Latimore stole third base and scored on a two-out Dosch single to center field. Singles from Julio Borbon and Tucker Nathans brought Dosch home for the final run of the game.
