The Bowie Baysox today announce they are teaming up with Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to spread cancer awareness. Governor Hogan will attend the Baysox game at Prince George’s Stadium Sunday, July 24 at 2:05 p.m. and participate in ceremonies throughout the event. The Baysox players will wear lime green jerseys during the game to spread awareness for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and raise money through an in-game jersey auction.
The Baysox will also hold a special “Bobblection”. Two bobble heads of Governor Hogan have been designed – one depicting the governor with hair and one without hair – and it will be up to the fans to choose which one they like better. The first 1,000 fans ages 18 and older through the main stadium gates the day of the game will get their pick of the two bobble heads. The version that runs out first will be declared the winner of the “Bobblection”.
Stadium gates will open at 1:00 p.m. for the 2:05 p.m. game against the Erie SeaWolves and two separate lines will form outside the stadium, allowing fans to choose the bobble head they would like to “elect.” Fans will be tasked with deciding whether they preferred Governor Hogan with the bald head that many Marylanders embraced as he underwent chemotherapy treatment or the flowing locks he possessed when he first assumed office.
That day’s special green jerseys will include a lime green ribbon on the sleeve – the color designated for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma awareness. During the Baysox game, fans will have the opportunity to bid on the game-worn jerseys. An in-game auction will determine the winning bidder for each jersey with fans receiving the jerseys after they have been autographed by the player and the governor. Proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit area cancer-related charity organizations.
Governor Hogan was diagnosed with Stage 3 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in June 2015 and he underwent aggressive treatment over the next five months before being able to declare himself completely in remission November 16, 2015.
