The Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce announced the 2016 Anne Arundel County Business Hall of Fame Inductees. They will be recognized and inducted at the 2016 AAACCC Business Hall of Fame and Awards presented by Severn Savings Bank on Thursday, October 27th at the LoewsAnnapolis Hotel from 6-9pm.
This year’s Hall of Fame Inductees are well-known, recognized and respected community business leaders who have made distinctive achievements in leading an Anne Arundel County business. Important considerations are those individuals who also made significant contributions to the community through service provided to charitable and non-profit organizations.
The 2016 Hall of Fame Inductees are: Scarlett Breeding, Fred Graul, Linda Greene and Larry Ulvila.
Scarlett Breeding, principal of Alt Breeding Schwartz Architects, has over 25 years experience in the practice of Architecture and Interior Design. In addition to her strong design skills and intuition, she is well known for her special abilities and effectiveness in project facilitation and construction management. As a project manager she has consistently exceeded her clients expectations in achieving project goals within budget and schedule.
In the community, Scarlett has served as president of the Chamber of Commerce for Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, chair of the board for the Foundation of A.A. Community College and was named Business Leader of the year while serving on the board of the Anne Arundel County Economic Development Corporation. She has also served on several countywide commissions and committees addressing important issues for businesses and the citizens of Anne Arundel County.
Scarlett is also the recipient of numerous awards including being honored as Baltimore Magazine’s Top 100 Women in 1996, Historic Annapolis Foundation Preservation Award in 1997, and the YWCA’s Tribute to Women in Industry Award in 1994, as well.
Lifelong resident of the Broadneck Peninsula, Fred Graul started working in the Cape St. Claire store at an early age. He operated the Ruxton store for five years in the 70’s and his son Bryan now operates the Annapolis and Cape St. Claire stores.
Fred has been involved and served on the boards of several nonprofits including the AAMC Foundation, Hospice of the Chesapeake Foundation, Chesapeake Academy, and Harbor School among others. He is currently on the board of the SPCA of AA Co. and was Board President for 10 years. He is the President of the Cape St. Claire Business Association, serves on the Heart Council at AAMC and was named the Philanthropist of the Year by the Community Foundation.
Most recently serving as Executive Director of the BWI Business Partnership, Linda Greene has more than 30 years’ experience in the transportation and aviation industry, including work with the Maryland Aviation Administration, an international airport association, and in transportation advocacy and commuter transportation. As the Partnership’s Executive Director, she oversaw a non-profit organization of 200 members in the Baltimore/ Washington region, and directed activities that promote regional economic development, support for transportation infrastructure, transit development, and commuter transportation programs.
Prior to joining the Partnership, Ms. Greene was Vice-President of the Airports Council International -North America, an organization representing 450 commercial airports in North America. At the Airports Council, she led grassroots activities and public relations programs to advance airports’ common agendas, including airport funding and environmental issues
Before moving to the federal arena, Ms. Greene served as Director of Public Affairs at BWI Marshall Airport. She supervised a wide variety of public affairs activities, including media relations and special events. Special events of note included the arrival ceremony for Pope John Paul II, and the repatriation of refugees returning from the first Gulf War. While there, she and the airport team were honored for overall communications and marketing excellence by the Airport Council International- North America with the Peggy G. Hereford Award and multiple awards from the Public Relations Society of America over several years.
Among her Board memberships during her tenure at the Partnership were: the Central Maryland Transportation Alliance, the Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Bureau, the Anne Arundel Workforce Investment Board, the Regional STEM Advisory Board. Supporting the mission of Ft. Meade, she served as Vice-president and a Board member of the Fort Meade Alliance, on BRAC Task Forces in Anne Arundel and Howard Counties, the Ft Meade Regional Growth Committee, and the Ft. Meade Community Covenant Council. She was the first Chair of the Council in 2012, and again in 2015. In 2007, she was a finalist for Corridor, Inc. Person of the Year. In 2009, she was the winner of the Athena Award from the West County Chamber of Commerce for her community involvement, and again a finalist for Corridor, Inc Person of the Year.
An Anne Arundel County resident and a graduate of Western Maryland College (now McDaniel,) and completed graduate work at the American University. She is also a graduate of Leadership Anne Arundel.
Post Partnership (since October, 2015) Linda has already stepped up to serve on the Board of the Partnership Foundation, Board member of the Edgewater Beach Citizens Association, member of the Maryland Transit Administration’s Citizens Advisory Board, Co-Chair of the Ft. George G. Meade Centennial celebration and Board member of the Fort Meade Alliance Foundation.
Larry’s has over 40 years experience in the Employee Benefits Business, with particular concentration on the Finance and Delivery of Health Care. The first 19 years of his career was with a Major Insurance Carrier, with his last position as Vice President of Sales for the U.S. Group Operations. His company also owned the largest third party administrator in the United States, with the average employer served having 22,000 employees. This provided him with extensive knowledge on the principals of Self Funding, for medium and larger employers. He founded Insurance Solutions in February 1989, an Employee Benefit Consulting Firm.
Insurance Solutions is involved in the design and implementation of all forms of Employee Benefit Programs, but with particular demand in the area of Medical Coverage. They have developed many proprietary communication tools, and provide invaluable support to Human Resource Departments. Their client base includes over 300 for and not for profit employers, not only locally, but many Multi-State Groups.
Larry currently Chairs the AAMC Outreach Council on Mental Illness & Alcohol/Substance Use. He is also on the Board of Leadership Anne Arundel and a member Anne Arundel County Community College Foundation Board and Anne Arundel County Community College Board of Trustees. He is the past Chair of AAMC Foundation Board, Anne Arundel County Community College Foundation Board, Annapolis and Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce, The 21st Century Education Foundation, and National Association of Insurance Agents and Financial Advisors AA County. His more recent awards include Leadership Anne Arundel Distinguished Graduate Award, Maryland Association of Health Underwriters Person of the Year, Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce Business Leader of the Year and 2016 Anne Arundel County Good Scout Award Recipient.
