Baysox fall short in pitcher’s duel

Baysox 2016Each team was limited to five hits but in the end Akron was able to prevail as the Baysox fell 3-1 on Friday night at Canal Park. Akron ended a seven-game losing streak with their victory.

The Baysox took the lead with a two-out rally in the third inning. Jay Gonzalez singled shooting a line drive the other way into left field. Gonzalez got second base on a wild pitch and Ohio native Drew Dosch singled him home to put on top 1-0.

Akron would answer though as Jeremy Lucas led off the fourth inning with a double to center on the first pitch of the frame. That would start a two-run rally that saw the RubberDucks have four consecutive batters reach. David Hess was able to minimize the damage however and keep it a 2-1 game.

In the fifth Akron added on as leadoff hitter Greg Allen hit his first Eastern League home run to right field in his fifth game. The Baysox down 3-1 could not rally.

Bowie pushed two into scoring position in the eighth inning but Sharlon Schoop lined out and Chance Sisco grounded out to end the threat.

Following Hess and his strong five-inning effort was Michael Zouzalik who allowed just an infield single in two outstanding innings. Jesus Liranzo came on and showed great velocity in his Eastern League debut working a 1-2-3 eighth inning. Garabez Rosa went 0-for-4 in the game ending his ten-game hit streak.

The series continues Saturday, July 30th with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch with Matthew Grimes on the hill. Coverage begins 20-minutes prior to first pitch on 1430-WNAV and 99.9 FM in Annapolis.

It will be Navy Night presented by the Naval Federal Credit Union on Friday, August 5th when the Baysox return home. The weekend will feature fireworks Friday and Saturday and the Minion Manny Bobblehead Doll on Sunday the 7th. Get tickets now at baysox.com.
