Jayson Aquino gave the Baysox six shutout innings and Connor Bierfeldt hit his first Eastern League home run to lead Bowie to a 1-0 win over Akron Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Baysox took three of four games in the first leg of their road trip that next sends them to Reading, PA.
Aquino was in trouble often but worked craftily out of jams. Twice Akron had a runner at third with less than two outs as Aquino worked out of trouble. Akron was hitless in nine at-bats with a runner in scoring position with Aquino in the game. They went 0-for-11 overall.
Bierfeldt gave Bowie the lead in the seventh inning. He had flied out to deep left field in the second inning to the track. In the seventh inning he took it over the wall. The drive was off of former big league reliever Craig Stammen. It was the first of Bierfeldt’s Eastern league career and the 15th of his season overall.
The Baysox bullpen was outstanding. Stefan Crighton worked a scoreless seventh inning. It was his fifth consecutive scoreless appearance. And Parker Bridwell entered in the eighth and retired all six faced, striking out two batters for his first professional save. Bridwell, new to the pen, was in his 133rd pro appearance.
