Weekend fire destroys old barn in Lothian

An early morning fire destroyed a barn and its contents in Lothian. Firefighters responded to the 200 block of Farmhouse Lane just before 1:45 a.m. They arrived to find a large barn completely involved in fire and already beginning to collapse. Firefighters requested a second alarm to assist with water supply and for the ability to rotate personnel due to the high heat and humidity conditions. Sixty firefighters from Anne Arundel, Calvert and Prince George’s counties, and the City of Annapolis, controlled the fire in about an hour. Extinguishment of hot spots within the debris continued for several hours with the last units clearing the scene around 6:30.

Paramedics transported one Anne Arundel firefighter to Anne Arundel Medical Center for the treatment of a heat-related illness. His condition is not believed serious.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by members of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit, and no dollar loss has been set.
