Annapolis Rotary Club, Crab Feast August 5, 2016

The Annapolis Rotary Club is seeking volunteers for its 71st Annual Crab Feast being held from 4–8 PM, Friday, August 5, 2016 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis. Volunteers can enjoy any food EXCEPT crabs. That means lots of hot dogs, pulled pork, soup, corn, and beverages. Volunteers will receive T shirts on a first come basis in the Navy Stadium /Preferred Dining area on Friday Aug 5 after 3:30 PM. Banneker-Douglass Museum

The Banneker-Douglass Museum is in need of volunteers to expand its enlightening and interactive education programs, give guided tours to the general public, students, educators, and others, and assist with front desk maintenance. Calvert Animal Welfare League

The organization located in Prince Frederick operates a state-of-the-art adoption and education center. Volunteers age 14 and up with adult supervision are needed for 2 shifts daily of animal care, to provide foster homes, and as administrative support for short and long term projects. National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, Central MD Chapter
The mission of this all volunteer organization is to save lives by fighting tirelessly to prevent and cure ovarian cancer and to improve the quality of life of survivors. There is no screening test for ovarian cancer and often women are diagnosed at a late stage since the symptoms can be so vague. We host many awareness/educational functions throughout the year but our main fundraising event each year is a 5KRun/3KWalk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer. 7:00 a.m., Sun., Sept. 18, 2016, 7th Annual Run/Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer: This exciting event is being held at the Westfield Annapolis Mall. PKD Foundation, Baltimore Chapter

The mission of the PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) Foundation, Baltimore Chapter is to assist, on a regional and local basis, the national efforts to promote research to find a cure for PKD and to improve the care and treatment of those it affects. A new Volunteer Chapter Coordinator (age 19 and up) is needed to motivate and lead others in fundraising, lobbying, educating the public, organizing events and helping people affected by PKD. The Chapter Coordinator would ideally have skills in leadership, organization, motivation and fund raising and be available to stay in the job at least two years. 10 a.m., Sun., Sept. 25, 2016, Baltimore Walk for PKD: Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of functions associated with this event being held at the Hammerman Area of Gunpowder Falls State Park, 7200 Graces Quarters Rd., Middle River, MD 21220. Check-in/Onsite Registration begins at 10 a.m., the Penny Kids Dash at 10:45, and the 1 mile Walk at 11 a.m. For more information, see the website or contact the Walk Coordinators at [email protected].

Project Green 9/11 Day of Service, Sat., Sept. 10, 2016

To commemorate Marylanders who have lost their lives in service to their country, including on 9/11, the Volunteer Center celebrates a Day of Service. The day will begin at 8:30 am on Sat., Sept. 10, 2016 with a brief ceremony at the Maryland World War II Memorial located in the median at 1920 Ritchie Highway, Route 450, Annapolis. Volunteer sign-in begins at 8:00 am. From 9:00 am until noon, volunteers will participate in environmental service projects beginning at the WW II Memorial and continuing to Jonas Green Park at the foot of the Naval Academy Bridge. This is a “rain or shine event” and will only be delayed or cancelled if there are local thunder storms. In addition to weeding, planting and mulching to control storm water runoff, we will participate in the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) as volunteers record items of debris they find, giving a clearer picture of the items impacting the health of the Chesapeake Bay. Strengthening Families Program

The Strengthening Families Program provides training in parenting, children’s skills, and family relationship skills to promote happy and healthy families. Strengthening Families is a 14-session evidenced-based program that provides parent training for adults and life skills sessions for adolescents ages 11-17 and children ages 6-10.  Sessions are run several times during the year in different areas of Anne Arundel County. The program is looking for volunteers to help administer and guide blossoming families to reach their fullest potential.
