The Rotary Club of Parole (Annapolis) Foundation recently announced the 2016 grant recipients at the club’s June meeting, presenting the selected non-profits with checks in the amounts of $1,000 to $3,000, totaling $34,000.

The Parole Rotary Foundation is a 501(C) (3) organization and was established by the Rotary Club of Parole (Annapolis) to support programs that focus on the needs of our local community in light of the Club’s vision: “We will make a positive difference for youth today, so they will make a difference tomorrow.” The Foundation is primarily funded by member donations and club fundraising activities.

The grant money of $34,000 was raised from parking cars at the US Naval Academy football games during the 2015 fall season. Applications from 27 non-profits totaled over $74,000. The final selection of the thirteen organizations serve underserved children in three areas—health, education and the arts.

Grant recipients were as follows: Anne Arundel County Public Library Foundation, The Assistance League of the Chesapeake, Inc., The Boys and Girls Club of Annapolis & AACo., Anne Arundel County CASA, Inc., Creating Communities Corp., Feed a Healthy Mind, Germantown Elementary School PTA, The Light House, Start the Adventure in Reading (STAIR), Maryland Therapeutic Riding each received $3,000. Maryland Hall of the Creative Arts and the YWCA of Annapolis each received $2,000. Services from the Heart, Inc., received $1,000.

The Rotary Club of Parole (Annapolis) is comprised of approximately 67 members, who enthusiastically share and demonstrate the Rotary philosophy. Rotary’s guiding principle is Service Above Self. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today’s most critical issues—children at risk, health & hunger, water and literacy.
The Club supports programs for youth; educational opportunities and international exchanges for students and professionals; and vocational and career development and much more.

The Club’s signature project is the Books for International Goodwill, Inc. which takes used books for shipment to needy schools and libraries, and since 1995, has saved books from the landfill and shipped over 5 million books to help spread literacy throughout the world.
