Ritchie Highway in Arnold snarled after tree falls on bus early this morning

Ritchie Highway CrashOne person received serious injuries this morning when a tree struck the passenger bus he was operating.

Firefighters responded to the area of Ritchie Highway South and Chautaugua Road just after 7:15 this morning for the reports of a tree which had fallen on a bus with a person trapped. Arriving firefighters found a small bus which had been struck by a tree while it was traveling on Ritchie Highway.

The driver was trapped, and two passengers were complaining of minor injuries. Firefighters worked for about 35 minutes to free the driver, a 57-year-old male. He was treated by paramedics and then transported to a waiting Maryland State Police helicopter which had landed at a nearby church.

The patient was transported by helicopter to Shock Trauma with injuries that were serious but not believed life threatening. The two patients with minor injuries were transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center by paramedics.
