Police make arrest in Annapolis murder

This is an update to a story we initially reported on on May 31, 2016.

On Wednesday, June 2, 2016 the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on the deceased female. The autopsy revealed puncture/stab wounds to the upper body with the manner being homicide. After the autopsy was completed, homicide detectives were able to positively identify the deceased female as Holly Carol Smith, a twenty-four year old female who used to reside in the 900 block of Holgate Drive, Essex, Maryland. Detectives have notified next of kin and are working on finding out where she had recently resided. Homicide Detectives are also looking for any witnesses who may have seen Ms. Smith recently within the last week.

As the investigation moved forward information was developed identifying a possible suspect. The suspect was identified as Christopher Allen Scheibe a twenty-eight (28) year old white male with no fixed address. Homicide Detectives learned Christopher Scheibe was wanted on unrelated charges at that time. During the early morning hours of Thursday, June 2, 2016, members of the Maryland State Police assisted the Homicide Unit in taking Christopher Scheibe into custody in the 3000 block of Warwick Road, East New Market, Maryland.

Homicide Detectives interviewed Christopher Scheibe at which time he confessed to the murder of Holly Carol Smith. An arrest warrant was obtained for him in regards to the murder of Ms. Smith charging him with First and Second Degree Murder and First and Second Degree Assault. Christopher Scheibe is still incarcerated on the Eastern Shore and a detainer has been filed in regards to the murder warrant.
