The Charities:

Companion Bridge is an online community (similar to Caring Bridge for people) for those with animals that require significant medical care to have a central place to inform family and friends and to solicit help, be it physical, emotional or financial. Our Mission: To provide a loving and supportive community for people to connect, share and assist one another on behalf of their companion animals. http://companionbridge.org/ (June 24)

Chesapeake Cats and Dogs is a 501C(3) non-profit lifetime haven and no-kill animal rescue organization. CCAD formed in 2006 and consists of a dedicated group of volunteers “working to provide a life of love and dignity for all animals”. When we take in an animal, they are with us until we can place them in a good, loving home. To accomplish our mission, we rely on regular adoptions, donations, and volunteers!  http://www.chesapeakecatsanddogs.org/ (July 29)

The SPCA of Anne Arundel County is the largest and oldest animal welfare organization in Anne Arundel County. The SPCA provides shelter and humane care for homeless animals in need and works as advocates for animal welfare in our community. At the SPCA, there is no time limit placed on how long an animal is available for adoption. They embrace animals in need — regardless of age, breed, or physical condition — and provide them with the care they deserve for as long as it takes us to find them a home. The mission of the SPCA shall be to serve as the leading private nonprofit organization within Anne Arundel County which exists to protect companion animals from acts of cruelty and neglect; to promote humane care and concern for the animals by educating the public and by working to end pet overpopulation; to provide shelter and rehabilitation to companion animals in need; and to work for the passage and enforcement of laws which promote and provide for the humane treatment of companion animals. http://www.aacspca.org/ (August 26 & October 28)

Ben’s Memorial Fund – Animal Legal Defense Fund

Ben started his life living in terrible conditions, a victim of animal hoarding. He lived on a property in squalid conditions with hundreds of other dogs. Many dogs with untreated ailments so serious that they had to be euthanized. But Ben was one of the lucky ones. As a result of an Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) investigation and lawsuit, Ben, along with over 300 dogs, were rescued from a horrible fate and placed into permanent loving homes. For over 10 years he lived in the care of an ALDF board member, and he was a regular fixture at parties and fundraisers for ALDF. Ben was also the official greeter dog at Paws Pet Boutique in Annapolis, where he would welcome people and dogs alike to the store. Sadly, Ben passed away on Thanksgiving in 2015 from complications of an emergency gallbladder surgery. Ben’s Memorial Fund will accept donations in honor of Ben—and the countless other dogs rescued from cruelty—and use the funds to fight puppy mills and support the prosecution of animal cruelty. Please make a gift today to support Ben’s Memorial Fund, and help the Animal Legal Defense Fund win the case against cruelty. http://aldf.org/about-us/support-animal-legal-defense-fund/bens-memorial-fund/ (September 30)
