Blades of Green in Harwood, MD has selected an outstanding candidate to receive their scholarship for the 2016 academic year. The recipient Catherine Knox, plans to attend the University of Southern California and pursue a major in Environmental engineering.
Catherine has distinguished herself through her passionate commitment to environmental engineering and environmental policy change. As a student of Broadneck High School in Annapolis, MD she has seen the effects of agriculture and industrialization first hand on the Chesapeake Bay. Her goal is to further her education to help protect not only the Bay, but also other struggling ecosystems.
“We are excited to award our first scholarship to such a bright and talented student. Catherine demonstrates great potential in leading the next generation and shaping the field of environmental engineering,” Brad Leahy, Owner and Vice President of Blades of Green said.
Mr. Leahy, as an avid fisherman and a guardian of the Chesapeake Bay, is committed to environmental stewardship and the protection of the Bay. Part of the Company’s vision statement is “creating environmentally sustainable practices” in the green industry.
The Blades of Green Scholarship is aimed at fostering advancements in environmental engineering, plant sciences, environmental sciences, green technology, and related fields. The scholarship fund was established in 2016 and seeks to recognize candidates who show a commitment to future involvement with the environmental sciences.
Blades of Green plans to continue its efforts to fund further education in environmental fields. They will be continuing the scholarship for the 2017 academic year and are excited to see what next year’s applicants bring to the table.
