Beede befuddles Baysox

Baysox 2016Richmond starting pitcher Tyler Beede threw eight one-hit innings as the Flying Squirrels shut down the Baysox for a 3-0 win Thursday night to split the series. Henry Urrutia managed the only hit of the game for Bowie in the sixth inning. 

Beede was perfect the first time through the order until Urrutia reached on a fielding error to lead off the fourth inning. Just three Baysox reached base through the entire game. 

The Flying Squirrels led throughout the game after scoring a pair of runs against Baysox starter John Means in the bottom of the first inning. Myles Schroder hit a lead-off single to center field and Christian Arroyo followed with double to left field. Ryder Jones brought one run home with a groundout and Ricky Oropesa plated a second run with a single to center field to make the score 2-0.

Richmond added one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ali Castillo hit a lead-off double to left field, moved to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a two-out Jones double to right field to make the score 3-0.

Means threw six innings and allowed three runs on 10 hits while striking out two and walking one in the loss. Reliever Bobby Bundy threw three scoreless innings to finish the game, allowing one hit and striking out two. 

The Baysox return home Friday to begin a three-day, four-game home series against the Akron RubberDucks. Friday, the Baysox will celebrate local Community Heroes during the 7:05 p.m. game. RHP Brandon Barker (1-0, 5.40) will pitch for the Baysox and he will be opposed by RHP Adam Plutko (3-2, 2.66)
