The force is strong in Bowie as the Baysox defeat the Curve 4-1 on Star Wars Night

Baysox 2016The Force is strong in Bowie. The Baysox returned the favor of last night’s shutout loss with a dominant performance tonight that led to a 4-1 victory. A combination of two home run balls in the first inning and Baysox starter Jason Garcia dominating with six shutout innings evens the series at a game each  

Baltimore Orioles catcher Caleb Joseph continued to play with the Baysox on a Major League Rehab Assignment, batting third as the designated hitter. Joseph finished the game 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Orioles RHP Vance Worley also pitched 1.2 innings in relief, allowing one run on five hits. 

After getting shutout last night and only mustering four hits, the Baysox exploded in the bottom of the first inning. Julio Borbon led off with a solo home run to right-center field off Altoona starter Tyler Eppler. With one out, Joseph followed with another solo home run to left field before Garabez Rosa continued the rally with a single to left field. Rosa moved to second base on a balk and scored on a two-out Joey Terdoslavich double to right field. Austin Wynns capped the scoring with a double to left field to give the Baysox a 4-0 lead.

After Jason Garcia came out the game, Altoona finally got on the board in the top of the seventh frame. Jose Osuna hit a lead-off double to right field off of Worley and moved to third base on a Reese McGuire groundout. Edwin Espinal brought Osuna home on a groundout to make the score 4-1. 

Eppler threw 6.1 innings and allowed four runs on 11 hits while striking out three in the loss.

Garcia earned his third consecutive win. He threw six scoreless innings and allowed just three hits while walking two and struck out one Curve batter. Reliever Donnie Hart recorded the final four outs for his first save of the season.

The Baysox conclude a six-game homestand Sunday in the series finale against the Altoona Curve at2:05 p.m. Sunday is Maryland Pride Day and the Baysox will wear Maryland Flag jerseys along with a Maryland Flag T-shirt Giveaway. LHP John Means (1-2, 4.34) makes the start for Bowie and he will be opposed by RHP Alex McRae (1-2, 11.77).
