Baysox drop series opener in Erie

Baysox 2016The Baysox got a three-RBI night from Garabez Rosa but it was not enough as they dropped the series opener in Erie Friday night 5-4. The loss sent the Baysox to 8-21 on the season in games decided by two runs or less.

Rosa was clutch throughout the evening for Bowie. He tied the game at 1-apiece in the third inning with a two-out RBI-single. In the fifth inning, he tied the game at 2-2 with a two-out RBI double to left-center. A third RBI would score later on a Rosa groundout in the seventh inning to cut the Erie lead to 5-4.

Rosa would bat with the tying run at second base and two down in the ninth after a pinch-hit double by Chance Sisco. Rosa would ground out lightly to shortstop as the throw was just in time to end the contest.

Erie never trailed the game and always had an answer for the Baysox. The got to Bowie starter Jayson Aquino for five runs in five innings, including the big three-run fifth that decided the game. Jon Keller kept the Baysox in the game with 2 and 2/3rd innings of scoreless relief work.

Quincy Latimore hit a moonshot home run onto the roof in the sixth inning of Erie Insurance Arena in left field. It was his sixth home run of the year and first since May 29th.

The Baysox go right back at it Saturday, June 18th with RHP Stefan Crighton making a spot start. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning 20-minutes prior on 1430-AM WNAV and 99.9 FM in Annapolis.

Bowie returns home on Tuesday, June 21st night for the beginning of a six-game homestand that will see both Trenton and Altoona come to town. Get tickets at 301-805-6000 or online at baysox.com
