Woman involved in Corporal Adams’ shooting to serve 5 years probation

Colvin White
Colvin White (l) was sentenced to life in prison. Danielle Blake (r) was sentenced to 8 years, but all of that was suspended.

Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Wes Adams announced today that Danielle Blake, 30, of Severn, was sentenced eight years with all suspended and five years of probation for serving as accessory-after-the-fact and transporting a handgun in a vehicle for the April 2015 shooting of Anne Arundel County Police Officer Corporal Larry Adams. Blake pled guilty in October 2015.

“Ms. Blake’s sentence signals a closure for these tragic events,” said Wes Adams, Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney. “We are satisfied that Judge Mulford recognized Ms. Blake’s full and complete cooperation with the State in the apprehension and capture of Colvin White, as well as her assistance in obtaining the necessary evidence. We agree with the judge that 8 years of incarceration, hanging over Ms. Blake’s head if violated, is appropriate given her cooperation. While this doesn’t reverse the fact that an officer who was protecting and serving the citizens of Anne Arundel County was shot and severely injured, this does give a measure of justice to the officer and our community.”

Officer Larry Adams stated in court that he forgave the defendant for her bad decisions that night. She did not shoot him, nor was she part of any plan to shoot him. He stated to Judge Mulford that he did not wish for her to serve additional jail time, nor lose her four children simply because she was associated with Colvin White.

In fashioning his sentence, Judge Mulford noted that given a world filled with violence and hatred, he was “struck by” Officer Adams’ compassion for Ms. Blake and focused on Blake’s extensive cooperation which played a key role in completing the story of what took place that night, locating additional evidence, and securing such a strong conviction against Colvin White.

Officer Adams continues to recover from his injuries.

State’s Attorney Wes Adams and Deputy State’s Attorney Jonathon Church prosecuted the case on behalf of the State. Judge William C. Mulford presided over the case.

Background:

At approximately 2am on April 10th 2015, Officer Larry Adams was on a routine patrol when he encountered a van on the side of the road. Concerned for their safety, he approached the passenger, Danielle Blake, 30, of Severn, who was the lone occupant at the time. Ms. Blake stated that their van had run out of gas and the driver had gone into the East College Parkway 7-Eleven nearby. Intending to give the driver $5.00 for gas, Officer Adams parked at the 7-Eleven where an employee alerted him to a suspicious man outside the store.

Officer Adams encountered Mr. White lurking in a hoodie and dark clothing around the side of the store.  Upon asking for Mr. White’s identification, a scuffle ensued. Mr. White fled and Officer Adams gave chase.  Mr. White ran into the wooded area between the 7-11 and a BGE substation and proceeded to hide behind a tree.  As Officer Adams moved into the wooded area, Mr. White stepped from behind a tree and ambushed Officer Adams, shooting at him twice, striking him once in the neck. Mr. White fled with his girlfriend, Ms. Blake, who was waiting in her van on the side of College Parkway.  Employees of the 7-11 found Officer Adams suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to shock trauma where life saving measures saved his life.
