Kelly RampmeyerThe Summit School’s teacher, Kelly Rampmeyer, doesn’t use her summer breaks for rest and relaxation. Instead, she travels the world undertaking various service projects. Having traveled to 30 countries, she has helped establish an orphanage in Mozambique, distributed food in Haiti, consulted with schools and orphanages throughout Uganda, rebuilt homes in New Orleans and Nepal, taught English in Romania, and assisted with many other global projects.

This year, Kelly’s service work and travels will be for a cause much closer to home. For the past six years, Kelly has been teaching the brilliant students at The Summit School in Edgewater, MD. The Summit School is a private school that serves students with dyslexia and other learning differences. Kelly truly believes in Summit’s mission to educate children with unique learning styles to their full potential. So, she has decided to spend this summer riding her bike from Seattle to Boston while raising money and spreading awareness of Summit’s mission.

Kelly will ride her bike 4,200 miles across America over a nine-week span. Cycle America’s coast-to-coast ride requires bikers to pedal an average of 80 miles a day. Her heart for adventure and her love of Summit led her to this endeavor.

So far, Kelly has raised $8,500 towards her goal of $10,000 for The Summit School’s Scholarship Fund and Student Activity Fund. The scholarship fund helps students of all economic backgrounds to benefit from Summit’s unique program, and the student activity fund helps with field trips, guest speakers for assemblies, and athletics.
