Last night Royal Teeth played at U Street Music Hall here in DC. These Louisiana locals always look right at home on a stage. The U Street stage did seem small for Royal Teeth. After seeing them play at venues like Rams Head Live, you could tell that they were constricted on a smaller stage, especially Gary Larsen (Singer, Guitarist) who normally can’t stand still. Gary was still very energetic in his small space, but the stage did limit him which is unfortunate because one of the best parts of Royal Teeth is seeing them dancing across a stage having a great time.
For those who have not heard of Royal Teeth before, they have a very indie-pop sound. Almost like Echosmith, however I should say Echosmith sound more like them, since Royal Teeth formed years before their arrival. “Wild” is by far one of the best songs from Royal Teeth and gives you a good example of other tracks that you would find off of
their debut album Glow. Last night Royal Teeth also played a new song “Kids Conspire” which will be off of their new album due out sometime in 2016. If “Kids Conspire” is any indication the new album will still sound similar to Glow, which is great because Royal Teeth has a very catchy sound that is about to bring them to new heights. The song itself is a great combination of their drum driven hits like “Wild” and dance-pop synths one might hear listening to a band like Metric or The Summer Set. The latter of which they are currently on tour with.
