Contemplative photography study group

Contemplative Photography Book CoverEnhance the ability to be present and carefully observe the world by joining this study group! It’s a hybrid of book discussion and contemplative practices. We will read “The Practice of Contemplative Photography: Seeing the World with Fresh Eyes” by Andy Karr and Michael Wood and complete the exercises as introduced in the text.

You do not need to have a background in meditation or photography to attend. All are welcome. We will get together from 10 AM—12 PM on the following Saturdays: May 14, May 21, June 11, June 18, and July 9. This group is facilitated by Donna Whicher, a student of the Gampopa Center’s Spiritual Director Lama Phurbu Tashi Rinpoche.

The first meeting will serve as an introduction to contemplative photography. We will discuss the first five chapters of the text. Next, we will venture outside to photograph the colors of the streetscapes within walking distance of our meeting place, the Gampopa Center, located at 424 Fourth Street, Annapolis.

A camera is required. iPhone/SmartPhone/iPad cameras are acceptable but not recommended. Please bring a laptop. If you do not have a laptop, you may be able to share one with a fellow participant. You will need the ability to transfer your photos to your laptop or your flash drive.

The book is available here.

There is no fee, but donations to the Gampopa Center for the use of the meeting space are appreciated.

Please RSVP by emailing [email protected].
