Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport announced today that 1,596,603 passengers flew through the airport in February 2016. That figure, an increase of 13.6 percent over last year, was a new record for the month of February. It was the eighth-straight monthly record for BWI Marshall.
“Since taking office, improving Maryland’s business climate and job creation has been the number one priority of our administration,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “BWI Marshall is a major job generator to our economy and this new record is further proof that Maryland is indeed open for business.”
Rising international traffic again helped lead the way for BWI Marshall. International passenger traffic rose by 31.8 percent in February. Work continues on the D/E Connector, a major capital improvement that will increase international capacity and provide new passenger services.
“This sustained growth is a sign that the region embraces BWI Marshall as a convenient airport that offers excellent customer service and affordable air service,” said Ricky Smith, Chief Executive Officer for BWI Marshall. “We continue to work with our airline partners to expand the number of preferred air service options to passengers in the Washington-Baltimore region.”
A number of BWI Marshall airlines experienced passenger growth for the month of February, including: Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Air Canada, and British Airways.
Passenger traffic at BWI Marshall has steadily increased. New airlines and new service have been added in recent months. Solid growth led to new all-time annual record for passenger traffic in 2015, with more than 23.8 million passengers.
