Bunt barrage leads to double header split for Baysox

Baysox2016The Baysox split a doubleheader with Richmond on Tuesday night with a unique bunt-fueled rally in extra innings. Bowie dropped the opener 2-1 but took the nightcap 6-3 in eight innings.

In the nightcap, the Baysox lost a late lead when a Garabez Rosa throwing error allowed the tying run to score with two down in the sixth inning. The ballgame headed to extras and the Baysox pushed forward an unusual rally.

Mike Yastrzemski laid down a perfect bunt for a single up the third base line. Corban Joseph then extended his hit streak to 17 games with a pushed bunt single to the right side. Chance Siscon would then place a sacrifice bunt to third but the throw was wide of first and the bases were loaded without an out on the board.

Rosa singled through a drawn in infield to give the Baysox the lead, 3-2. Quincy Latimore then doubled sharply down the left field line to push two more runs home. A Drew Dosch RBI-sacrifice fly ended the four-run rally in the 6-3 win.

In the opener, David Hess went three strong innings before a rainstorm ended his evening. A 35-minute delay followed the third inning. Richmond rallied for two runs in the fourth inning and the Baysox could not rally.

Eric Fornataro made his Orioles organizational debut getting a win in relief in his hometown in game two. Jayson Aquino allowed just a run in five innings in the strong start in the nightcap.

The series continues Wednesday night with Parker Bridwell toeing the slab at 6:35 p.m. in game three of the four-game set. Coverage will begin 20-minutes prior to first pitch with the Baysox On-Deck Show prior on wnav.com and via the Tune-In Radio App by searching Baysox.

Bowie returns home for a six-game homestand with Erie and Hartford beginning Friday, May 6th. Fireworks follow the May 6th and 7th games. Get tickets now by calling 301-805-6000 or purchase online at baysox.com.
