Baysox walk off to end losing streak

Baysox 2016After being down six runs early Wednesday, the resilient Baysox finally had their fortunes change as they were able to end their four-game losing streak with a walk-off of their own to beat the Fightin Phils, 7-6. With the win, Bowie has now split the first two games of the 2015 ELCS rematch with Reading.

The Fightin Phils wasted no time getting to Baysox starter Chris Lee. Roman Quinn got things started with a lead-off single to right field. With two outs and Quinn on second base, Dylan Cozens singled to center field to bring a run home. Rhys Hoskins followed with a walk and veteran Jake Fox then homered to left field to give Reading a 4-0 lead.

After a 1-2-3 bottom of the first inning, the Fightin Phils were back on the attack. KC Serna hit a lead-off single to center field and moved to second base on a wild pitch. Serna advanced to third base on a groundout and Quinn followed with a walk to put runners on the corners. J.P. Crawford brought one run home with a single to center field before a double steal advanced both runners on base. Jorge Alfaro followed with an RBI groundout to extend the Reading lead to 6-0.

In the bottom of the fourth inning the Baysox got to Reading starter Ricardo Pinto. Tucker Nathans hit a lead-off infield single to first base and Chance Sisco followed with a single to right field. An error on the play by right fielder Dylan Cozens allowed Nathans to score on the play. Joey Terdoslavich then homered, his first of two, to right field to cut the Reading lead in half to 6-3.

Baysox added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth frame as well.  Adrian Marin led off the inning with a solo home run to left field, his first of the season. With two outs, Sisco drew a walk and Terdoslavich followed with his second two-run home run to right field to tie the game 6-6.

Both teams’ bats went cold, as the game held at a 6-6 tie going into the bottom of the ninth. In their last at bat, the Baysox would rally. Glynn Davis led off with a four pitch walk and advanced to second on an Adrian Marin sac bunt down the first base line. Julio Borbon was intentionally walked to give the Baysox runners on second and third. The game ended on a groundball off the bat of Tucker Nathans that was misfielded by the Reading second baseman to allow Davis to score from second.

Lee threw six innings and allowed six runs on six hits while striking out two and walking four in a no decision. Relievers Ashur Tolliver, Donnie Hart and Jason Stoffel combined out of the bullpen to pitch a scoreless seventh, eighth and ninth inning, allowing just two hits. Stoffel earned his first win of the year.

The Baysox are home for a short three-game series against the Reading Fightin Phils. On Wednesday, the Baysox will play a day game beginning at 11:05 a.m. before heading to Harrisburg to begin a roadtrip. RHP Jason Garcia (1-4, 7.43) will take the mound for the Baysox and he will be opposed by LHP Anthony Vasquez (5-2, 2.09)
