Leadership students from Severna Park High School join Severna Park Earth Day Festival Committee

severna parkThe Severna Park Earth Day Festival Committee headed by Chris Myers welcomed the addition of two high school students to help with the 14th annual Severna Park Earth Day Festival. Those students, Lauren Crino and Brianna Leverty, worked on and managed the event for their senior Leadership III project for a class at Severna Park High School. They were assisted by four SPHS juniors currently enrolled in Leadership II class. Lauren and Brianna hope that one of their junior volunteers will take over the project for next year. This year’s festival was held on Saturday April 16, 2016 at the Severna Park Middle School (450 Jumpers Hole Road). The theme was “Taking the First Steps…” towards a greener community. Children attending the festival were able to explore the different booths and complete various activities in order to learn about the environment while adults purchased “green” products and connected with local advocates for a healthy planet.

Many participants signed up to host a table at this year’s event, including MAS Rescue, Solar Saves, Ellie’s Bus, Leveling the Playing Field, Davidsonville Wildlife Sanctuary, DoodyCalls, Veteran Composting, and Anne Arundel County Recycling. All public Severna Park schools were required to host a booth as well. The food vendors were Café Mezzanote and Park Deli, with an appearance by Go Melvo’s snowballs, bringing the total booth count to almost 50. Live music was added to the event as well, with two sets played by the Magothy River Middle School band Fast as Lightning.
