Hospice of the Chesapeake announced today that Melody Stried, MSW, LCSW, has been selected as its Chief Operating Officer. She started serving in her new position in early March.

Stried brings to the nonprofit 25 years of clinical and operational experience. She has held several leadership roles at Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care in Rosemont, Illinois. Most recently, she has been the Executive Director/Vice President of Operations for sites that serve the greater metropolitan area of Chicago.

In her new role with Hospice of the Chesapeake, Stried said, “I will be making sure we’re good stewards, providing the best end-of-life journey we can.” That includes overseeing the hospice clinical teams; inpatient services and education. She also will play a critical role in the interdepartmental and operational support needed for the nonprofit to meet the growing needs of the patients and families it serves in Anne Arundel and Prince George’s Counties.

Stried said that as a social worker, being an operations executive is a good fit. “Social workers are ‘fixers.’ On the littlest level, to the biggest level — that’s my leadership style. Roll your sleeves up and get involved.”

Though hospice is hospice in the sense of focusing on comfort, compassion and caring, she said there is a difference in working for a for-profit organization like Seasons and working in a nonprofit. She is looking forward to finding new ways to raise funds and promote the organization. “My outlet is creativity, so that excites me.”

“Melody’s experience as an oncology medical social worker, her extensive experience with hospice and palliative care, as well as her deep commitment to caring for life throughout the journey of illness and loss will be tremendous assets to Hospice of the Chesapeake as we work diligently to carry out our mission and achieve our organizational goals,” President and CEO Ben Marcantonio said.

Since relocating to Annapolis Melody has been experiencing what the region offers and in turn, how she can best serve the region in her new position.
