Latimore blast paces Baysox in 5-1 win

Baysox2016Quincy Latimore hit a three-run home run and threw a runner out at the plate as the Baysox grabbed their third overall win in a row with a 5-1 victory in Erie. The Baysox have scored 28 runs during the three-game stretch.

The Baysox grabbed the lead in the third inning as Mike Yastrzemski ripped a double to right-centerfield to score both Drew Dosch and Julio Borbon. Hit is big spots continued to be key in the fifth.

Latimore batted with two men aboard and hit a breaking ball out to left-centerfield for his second home run of the season. The lead had swelled to 5-0.

That would be enough for Baysox starter Jason Garcia and company. After facing the minimum through two innings, Erie left two in scoring position in the third inning. Latimore would make a big defensive play to end the fourth, throwing out Erie’s Dean Green at the plate by 30-feet to end the frame. All-in-all, Garcia worked five innings allowing five hits and one run picking up his first win of the year.

The Baysox bullpen was strong as Stefan Crichton bounced back from a rough outing on Friday in Akron with a solid 2 and 1/3rd innings of work. With one on and one down in the eighth inning, Donnie Hart came in and threw one pitch, getting a double play ball to end the inning. Hart has gotten five outs with just ten pitches in last two days.

The ninth inning saw Garrett Cortright and Jason Stoffel combine for a scoreless frame to finish the win. Stoffel earned his second save of the season with a strikeout of Alberto Gonzalez to finish it. All-in-all, the Baysox pen worked four scoreless innings.

The Baysox look to continue their win streak on Tuesday evening with LHP Jayson Aquino on the mound for his second organizational start. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. with coverage beginning 20-minutes prior on wnav.com and via the Tune-In Radio App by searching Baysox.
