AACC to stage Macbeth, weekends April 15-24

theater_masksAnne Arundel Community College will perform William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” on the weekends of April 15-24, in the Robert E. Kauffman Theater in the Pascal Center for Performing Arts on the Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway.

Director Casey Kaleba, part-time theater faculty and consultant at AACC, has assembled a cast of students, employees and community members for the production. The main characters are Macbeth, played by Alexander W. Brady of Arnold, an audio visual technician in AACC’s information services office; Lady Macbeth, portrayed by Chloe Kubit of Arnold, an AACC student; and Macduff played by AACC student Michael Bannigan of Bowie. The rest of the cast is a mix of AACC students and members of the community. Four younger actors in middle and high school also were cast, including the parts of the three witches, played by Melanija Janava, Abby Petrich and Emmy Sharp.

Sean J. Urbantke, assistant professor of performing arts and coordinator of AACC’s theater program, said he brings in working professionals for each AACC production to add to the professionalism of the production and to show cast and crew the expectations of those fields in the theater industry. For “Macbeth,” not only is director Kaleba an expert in fight choreography, but the lighting designer is Michael D. Klima, a professor at Towson University who has designed lighting for theatrical and operatic performances throughout the United States.

Tickets are on sale at the AACC Box Office at $20 general admission; $10 for  AACC employees, active military, senior citizens, groups, outside students and children under 10; and $5 for those with valid AACC student ID who purchase tickets prior to April 15.
