pedestrian accidentTwo pedestrians have died after being struck by vehicles on area roadways.

Edgewater

On April 1, 2016 at approximately 6:13 am, officers responded to the report of a pedestrian struck on Central Avenue East near Loch Haven Rd in Edgewater. Witnesses reported finding an unresponsive victim in the ditch along eastbound Central Avenue just prior to Loch Haven Road. He was declared dead at the scene by Fire Department personnel and was taken to the Medical Examiner’s office in Baltimore for autopsy. The preliminary cause of the crash is unknown but may be pedestrian error.  The deceased is identified as David Allen Decheubel from Edgewater.

The vehicle that struck the victim did not remain on scene and there were no witnesses to the crash. It is unknown what specific damage it sustained but should have damage to the front passenger side of the hood, windshield, quarter panel and/or door. It’s likely the crash occurred between 1:00- 5:00 am.

Anyone with possible vehicle information is asked to contact Traffic Safety at 410-222-8573 or metro crime stoppers.

Crofton

On April 1, 2016 at approximately 4:10 am, officers responded to the report of a pedestrian struck on Crain Hwy (MD-3) northbound near Crossgate Drive in Crofton. Witnesses reported a Toyota Avalon was northbound on MD-3 when it struck the pedestrian standing in the roadway just north of Crossgate Drive. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene by Fire Department personnel and was taken to the Medical Examiner’s office in Baltimore for autopsy. The deceased was identified as Niccolo Teobaldo Canning of Gambrills.

The preliminary cause of the crash appears to be the pedestrian not yielding to vehicular traffic while in the roadway outside of a crosswalk. Neither speed nor alcohol appears to be involved on the part of the driver however alcohol does appear to have been a contributing factor for the pedestrian.

Traffic Safety is handling the investigation. Any charges are pending review by the States Attorney.
