2 firefighters injured in Pasadena townhome fire

| April 6, 2016

Two Anne Arundel County firefighters, injured this afternoon fighting a dwelling fire in Riviera Beach, have been discharged from Shock Trauma.

Around 12:55 p.m., firefighters responded to a reported dwelling fire in the 1000 block of Chestnut Haven Court in Riviera Beach. First arriving firefighters reported smoke from the chimney area of a two-story, middle of the row townhome. Further investigation found heavy smoke from the rear of the dwelling and a fire in the basement of the home. Firefighters made an aggressive attack on the basement fire. As additional firefighters began to enter the home from a deck located to the rear of the home to search for occupants and fire extension, the floor below them collapsed, causing two firefighters to fall from the first floor into the basement.

The firefighters were quickly removed from the basement by other firefighters in the basement assisted by members of the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT). The RIT is a fully equipped team of firefighters on scene and in a ready state to deploy for rescuing injured and trapped firefighters.

The two firefighters, a 43-year-old male from the Brooklyn Park station and a 38-year-old male from the Glen Burnie station were treated by paramedics and transported to Shock Trauma for injuries related to their fall.

The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes. As a result of the fire, one adult occupant has been displaced. There were no additional injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation by members of the Fire and Arson Investigation unit. Damages are estimated at $75,000.
