The historic district of Annapolis is a museum without walls, a treasure trove of architecture and preservation. Celebrate and learn about the city’s most notable and celebrated examples of 17th and 18th Century architecture with “ArchiTrex,” a free tour by Annapolis Tours℠ by Watermark® and Historic Annapolis. Offered to the public for the first time, the complimentary tour is a part of the Maryland Day celebration on Saturday, March 19. The tour was developed in partnership with Watermark, Historic Annapolis, Craig Martin of Spire Architecture and Leslie Xavier. ArchiTrex is offered free to the public in celebration of Maryland’s heritage during Four Rivers Heritage Area’s 9th Annual Maryland Day weekend. Watermark is a proud member of Four Rivers Heritage Area.
On ArchiTrex, learn about some of the most notable 17th and 18th Century architecture in Annapolis. Noted local architect Craig Martin of Spire Architecture and artist, student of architecture and Historic Annapolis staff member and architect, Leslie Xavier will lead the tour. The tour’s content is authenticated by historians of Historic Annapolis. “Annapolis is well regarded for its collection of Colonial architecture and we are excited to introduce a tour devoted to it. Debuting the tour for a special weekend like Four Rivers’ Maryland Day is the perfect fit for something so unique,” says Heather Skipper, Director of Land Operations at Watermark, “The key to developing this tour included collaboration with professional architects and stewards of local history. Craig Martin’s passion and experience with local architecture – you see Spire Architecture signs hanging outside downtown properties as we speak – offers a close connection and familiarity with the buildings and stories behind them. Leslie Xavier’s knowledge of classical architecture and art and Roman engineering and archaeology give a historical vision of the influences of Europe and classical Greece and Rome in the architectural history of Annapolis.”

The tour takes place Saturday, March 19 at 10:30 a.m. The tour is a great opportunity for shutterbugs to photograph the city’s finest architecture. The tour will begin at Susan Campbell Park at City Dock immediately following the official flag raising ceremony. Reservations are not required.
