White is co-founder of Emerging Civil War, historian for the Penn-Trafford Recreation Board, series editor of the revamped “Civil War Regiments Series,” and a continuing education instructor at the Community College of Allegheny County in Pennsylvania. April 21 – 2-3:15 p.m. Writers Reading@ AACC, featuring novelist Michael Downs, Humanities Building Room 112. Downs’ nonfiction book, “House of Good Hope: A Promise for a Broken City,” won the River Teeth Literary Nonfiction Prize. He also wrote “The Greatest Show,” a story collection, and he has won literary fiction fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Maryland State Arts Council. April 16 – 2 p.m. Free clinic, featuring Jerry Ascione as part of AACC’s World-Class Jazz Series that brings jazz musicians to campus, Cade Center for Fine Arts Room 224. Ascione first played the horn, but changed his focus to the piano. He began performing with the Naval Academy’s big band jazz ensemble, “The Next Wave,” then became the pianist for “The Commodores” jazz ensemble of the U.S. Navy Band.
