Anne Arundel Medical Center

The Auxiliary of Anne Arundel Medical Center, 2001 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, needs volunteers ages 18 and older, daytime and evening hours, weekdays and weekends.   Positions include opportunities in patient interaction, customer service, and retail assistance.  The auxiliary has been serving the hospital since 1944.  Volunteers are an integral part of AAMC’s mission of providing patient-centered, high quality health care services.  Prospective volunteers are required to pre-register and attend a one-hour orientation.  For information and to register call the auxiliary office, 443-481-5050.

Historic London Town & Gardens

This Edgewater historic site seeks persons interested in history and/or horticulture to become docents, historic interpreters and gardeners at this 17th-18th century tobacco port. Volunteers give site tours, house tours or demonstrate colonial crafts and daily life. They may work in historic or ornamental gardens. Hope For All

Hope For All continues to seek volunteers to help on Tuesdays–Thursdays and Saturdays between 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon or so, assisting with pickups and deliveries of furniture, clothing, or other donations to help homeless families in Anne Arundel Co. Homeless Resource Day, April 9, 2016

A large number of volunteers are being sought for Anne Arundel County’s 9th Annual Homeless Resource Day, Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Brooklyn Park Middle School 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is a “one-day, one stop” opportunity for individuals and families experiencing homelessness to access benefits, medical care, substance abuse resources and mental health counseling as well as a variety of social services which can ultimately lead to housing and self-sufficiency. Also needed are donations of cash and NEW items: socks, underwear, backpacks, personal hygiene items (toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.), disposable wipes, and hand sanitizers (all in trial or travel sizes). Last year there were more than 600 homeless present. [if !supportLists]·         [endif]4:00 p.m. – 8 p.m., Fri., April 8, 2016, Setup: Volunteers 15 years of age and older are needed to help set-up tables, chairs, and signs and sort and stuff bags with donated canned food and toiletry items to be given to the homeless. 

[if !supportLists]·         [endif]7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Sat., April 9, 2016 (4 hour shifts), Guides and other Helpers: Volunteers 18 years of age or older are needed until event close at 4:00 p.m.; additional volunteers 15 years of age or older are needed for breakdown after 4:00 p.m.

 

Mt. Olive Community Life Center

This is a program designed to mentor youth within the Greater Parole community to help improve their academic achievement while fostering a positive attitude toward learning.  Mature student volunteers, ages 18 and older, are needed to teach basic skills in math, algebra, geometry, basic computer skills, homework assistance, reading, etc. In addition, volunteers are needed to provide office assistance during the day, and help with building and grounds maintenance. National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

NAMI Anne Arundel County depends upon volunteers to keep its organization going strong. There are so many ways you can give your time to help NAMI Maryland. You can help with advocacy, fundraising, training, education, community outreach or administrative assistance in the office. V-LINC

Volunteers with expertise in medicine, engineering and technology are needed to develop unique solutions that assist people with disabilities manage their daily life. Volunteers age 21 and up who are active or retired medical/rehabilitation professionals or those with engineering backgrounds are needed to assess disabilities and to design and build one-of-a-kind devices for clients with disabilities. Also needed are volunteers, age 16 and up, in Baltimore to work weekdays in the computer loan center testing, repairing, and refurbishing donated computer equipment. [if !supportLists]·                     [endif]6/27-7/1/16 (Session 1), 8/1-5/16 (Session 2), Mary Salkever Summer Camps 2016: Each Session is a week-long, inclusive, full-day camp for children with and without disabilities; Session 1 is intended for ages 7-14 and Session 2 is intended for ages 15-17. They feature computer-based activities that teach creativity, independent thinking, presentation skills, and literacy in a friendly and structured environment. Campers will also be able to explore their creativity through painting, drawing, and other arts and crafts activities. In addition, each day children have an opportunity to work at their own individual computer station programmed and configured for their specific needs, document the days’ activities using digital cameras, camcorders, and take part in various field trips.
