Key School to host 14th Annual Annapolis Book Festival

Key SchoolRadio talk show host Diane Rehm of WAMU’s the Diane Rehm Show, Pulitzer Prize-winners David E. Hoffman, Amy Ellis Nutt and Tim Weiner, as well as former Maryland Governor Parris Glendening, D. Watkins and Evan Thomas, are among many distinguished speakers already scheduled to appear at the 2016 Annapolis Book Festival on Saturday, April 16, at The Key School.

The Annapolis Book Festival is a free community event that features a full day of discussions with best-selling authors, as well as book signings, family activities and new and used book sales. The Festival draws approximately 3,000 visitors to Key School each year to celebrate the written word.

In addition to author appearances, the 14th annual Festival includes family-friendly entertainment and educational performances, live music and a variety of interactive children’s activities including ComicKey, a family-friendly comic adventure for children and teens with an exciting line up of comic writers and illustrators.

The Annapolis Book Festival will be held on the campus of The Key School at 534 Hillsmere Drive, Annapolis, MD, 21403 on Saturday, April 16, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Designed to promote and celebrate reading among all ages and interests, the event is free and open to the public.

2016 Annapolis Book Festival Children’s Activities 

In addition to children’s and young adult authors including Beth Fantaskey (Isabel Feeny, Star Reporter), Ronald L. Smith (Hoodoo),  Terry Catasús Jennings and Phyllis Saroff (Sounds of the Savanna), Susan Stockdale (Spectacular Spots), Brigid Kemmerer (Thicker than Water), and T. Michael Martin (Mr. Fahrenheit) the following are among the many family activities offered:

ComicKey—a family-friendly comic adventure for children and teens

Third Eye Comics and the Annapolis Book Festival are partnering to bring you “ComicKey—a family-friendly comic adventure” for children and teens. ComicKey will feature an exciting line up of writers and illustrators as well as a comic book swap, as we showcase the world of comics. This year ComicKey will celebrate the 50th birthday of Star Trek.

Shakespeare on the Lawn

To celebrate legacy of William Shakespeare on the 400th anniversary of his death, the Festival is teaming up with the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company. Children will enjoy Elizabethan crafts, transform into midsummer faeries, perform Shakespeare karaoke, and participate in a Shakespeare Slam.

Stomp Rockets on the Field

Children can create their own stomp rockets and set them off for some high-flying fun.

Echoes of Nature

Children will meet live animal ambassadors in this nature-oriented educational program.
