Evolve Medical Clinic’s Dr Freedman named to national panel

Evolve BBJ picDr. Michael Freedman of Evolve Medical Clinics has joined the National Steering Committee for Direct Primary Care. Dr. Freedman joins other nationally prestigious physicians such as Garrison Bliss, MD of Qliance (featured on the cover of Time Magazine, January 2015 and Rushika Fernandopulle, MD of Iora Health (featured in the New York Times, March 2015) and Mason Reiner, of R-Health (featured on CNBC).

Dr. Freedman and the members of the Steering Committee have successfully introduced a Senate Bill sponsored by Senators Bill Cassidy(R) and Maria Cantwell(D) which has gained broad bipartisan support. S.1989 would provide the clarification necessary for individuals to use their HSA to pay for membership services and allow Medicare patients to also enjoy the benefits by paying for their memberships.

Articles in publications ranging from NPR to Forbes to Heritage Foundation continue extoll the health and financial benefits for individuals and business. The New York Times summed it up:

Unfortunately most doctors in primary care are paid for “piecework.” They rush from “visit to visit, avoid phone calls and emails that don’t generate payments, and often fail to address the complex social issues that hamper people’s health. But things are about to change.”

Evolve Medical’s Direct Primary Care practice has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from Yelp to Google to a host of other review websites. Evolve has a limited number of spaces they will open, though growth is a possibility, says Dr. Freedman. Other DPCs, such as Qliance, based in Seattle, has a panel of 50,000 patients. Boston-based Iora Health, which has enrolled about 8,000 members and was recently named by Forbes as one of a handful of organizations to ‘turn healthcare upside down in 2016.’

Dr. Freedman said, “It is an exciting time for doctors and patients. We are on the cusp of a tectonic shift in the way primary and urgent care is delivered. I know our patients are thrilled and so are we!”
