Annapolis Fire Department battles 2-alarm fire in historic district

After a reported chimney fire earlier in the night, Annapolis fire crews responded again to the same address, only this time, the fire became a full 2-alarm assignment.

The initial call to the unit block of Shipwright Street in the historic district was reported about 7:00pm.  After crews left the scene, a second call was received shortly before 9pm for an attic fire. Multiple callers flooded the 911 dispatch center.

According to the fire department, upon arrival the second time, units encountered smoke and fire on the second and third floor rear of the dwelling.  A precautionary second alarm was requested including units from the Anne Arundel County and U.S. Naval Academy fire departments.  The fire was placed under control at 2150 hours bringing a total of 45 firefighters to the scene.  There were no reported fire department or civilian injuries.  The cause of the fire is under investigation and there has been no determination as to monetary damages.
