Parking may get easier in Annapolis with new parking management contract

Annapolis Parking TicketAnnapolis Mayor Michael Pantelides announced that SP+ Municipal Services has been chosen to manage the city’s comprehensive parking initiative. Under a ten year contract, all city parking services will be managed by SP+ and will offer modern options benefiting city residents, local businesses, and visitors.

The scope of services includes:

  • Mobile apps to locate and pay for parking
  • Operating and managing all the municipal garage facilities and two surface lots
  • On-street metered parking collection services
  •  Parking enforcement
  •  Residential parking permit issuance and management
  •  Parking utilization analysis ( allowing people to see how many spaces are available in each garage upon entering)
  • Garage shuttle services

“We are pleased to have SP+ oversee this new initiative and I look forward to building on the 21st century services they offer,” Mayor Pantelides said.   “This is also the most efficient way to manage parking in Annapolis. It brings all the critical services under one roof, rather than depending on several departments throughout the city to oversee day-to-day operations.”

SP+ provides professional parking, ground transportation, facility maintenance, security and event logistics services to property owners and managers in all markets of the real estate industry. The Company has more than 22,000 employees. SP+ Parking operates more than 3,900 parking facilities with 2.1 million parking spaces in hundreds of cities across North America, including parking-related and shuttle bus operations serving more than 60 airports.  USA Parking System, a wholly-owned subsidiary, is one of the premier valet operators in the nation with more four and five diamond luxury properties, including hotels and resorts, than any other valet competitor. The Company’s ground transportation division transports over 40 million passengers each year; its facility maintenance division operates in dozens of U.S. cities; and its SP+ GAMEDAY operating group provides a wide range of event logistics services.

“SP+ Municipal Services is honored to be selected by the City of Annapolis and is deeply committed to improving the parking experience in Annapolis,” said Chris Sherman, Senior Vice President at SP+.  “As a national leader in municipal parking management, we believe that sustained community outreach, strong customer service and innovative parking solutions will make the Annapolis parking experience more enjoyable for residents, small business owners and visitors alike.”

The comprehensive SP+ Parking presentation is scheduled to be the only agenda item at the Thursday, February 18th City Council work session. The meeting will be in City Council chambers, located at 160 Duke of Gloucester Street in Annapolis from 3-5 p.m. The work session will also be televised on channel 99 for all Comcast subscribers and on channel 34 for Verizon customers.
