Baltimore’s Full Circle Dance Company, a professional ensemble with a reputation for powerful dancing and for choreography that tackles real-world issues, presents Human Conditions: Dances about Love, Loss, and Life on February 6, 2016 at the Chesapeake Arts Center located at 194 Hammonds Lane, Brooklyn Park, Maryland 21225. Doors open at 7:00pm, show starts at 7:30pm. Tickets available for $15 Adults; $10 Seniors, Kids 12 & under and CAC Members at www.chesapeakearts.org or call the Box Office at 410-636-6597.
Works by award-winning choreographers from Maryland and beyond take on such issues as racial healing, health and well-being, the body image challenges faced by young women, and art and community as sources of strength in troubling times.
This concert will also feature a special event—a powerful dance for 40 young people, aged 10 to 18, choreographed collaboratively by Full Circle Artistic Director Donna L. Jacobs and Algernon Campbell. In a time when deaths of black teenagers have opened a nationwide conversation on complicated issues, this powerful and moving work gives young dancers an opportunity to express a range of emotions, from anxiety and sadness to hope for the future.
“At Full Circle Dance Company, we strive to share with our audience’s art that is relevant, that makes us all think, and that moves peoples’ spirits. Our dancers use their highly trained bodies to really say something,” said Jacobs.
Of the decision to incorporate young people as guest artists, Jacobs said, “As a professional company, we are exploring the human condition, and that includes people of all ages and backgrounds. Some of the most pressing issues of our time have a disproportionate impact on our youth, especially on young people of color, so it makes sense that they are part of the story.”
