Setting up the Navy Vs Pitt Military Bowl game

navyPittMilitaryBowl21st ranked Navy (10-2, 7-1 AAC) and Pitt (8-4, 6-2 ACC) will meet on the gridiron for the 40th time, but for the first time in a bowl game, when the two square off at 2:30 PM on Monday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (34,000) in the Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman.  This is Navy’s 12th bowl appearance in the last 13 seasons. Before this current streak, Navy had gone to nine bowl games in its history.

Navy enters Monday’s game looking for a school-record 11th win on the season and a third straight bowl win for the first time in school history.  The Mids have won 10 games four times in their history  (1905, 2004, 2009 and 2015).

Dating back to last year, Navy has won 16 of its last 19 games with the three losses coming against nationally-ranked programs Notre Dame twice and at Houston.

Navy has been ranked for the final five weeks of the regular season, which is the most consecutive weeks it has been ranked since 1963 when the Mids were ranked all 12 weeks. Navy finished 9-2 in 1963, losing to Texas in the Cotton Bowl in what was determined as the National Championship Game, 28-6.

Senior quarterback Keenan Reynolds has scored 85 career touchdowns (all rushing), the most rushing touchdowns in Division I history and the second most total touchdowns in FBS history. Reynolds needs two touchdowns to tie and three touchdowns to break the FBS record for total touchdowns held by Kenneth Dixon of Louisiana Tech (87) and two rushing touchdowns to become the first player in NCAA history to have three seasons of scoring 23 or more rushing touchdowns in a season. Reynolds held the record for a few weeks and was surpassed by Dixon in their last game of the season. The Military Bowl appearance gives Reynolds an additional shot at the records.

Reynolds has rushed for a school-record 4,415 yards in his career, passing the legendary Napoleon McCallum (Tulsa). Reynolds has the third-most rushing yards in NCAA history for a quarterback. He is 65 yards behind Pat White (West Virginia) for second and 80 yards behind record-holder Denard Robinson (Michigan).

Junior wide receiver Jamir Tillman is the first player in school history to catch a touchdown pass in four-straight games.

ESPN will broadcast the Military Bowl with Eamon McAnaney (play by play), Rocky Boiman and Quint Kessenich (sideline) on the call.  ESPN3 will carry the trophy ceremony following the game as well as the game broadcast.

WBAL Radio (1090 AM and wbal.com) will air a special 90-minute pregame show starting at 12 noon with Keith Mills live from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.  The Navy Football Tailgate Show on WNAV 1430 AM will air at 12:30 PM, while the Navy Football Pregame Show with Pete Medhurst, Omar Nelson and Joe Miller will get underway at 1:30 PM, followed by game action beginning at 2:30 PM on the Navy Radio Network. Following the contest, the trio will recap the day’s events in a 60-minute postgame show.

ESPN Radio has the national radio rights and will feature John Brickley (play by play), Mike Golic  and Mike Golic Jr.  on the call. SIRIUS and XM Satellite Radio will carry the ESPN broadcast.
