Navy’s Keenan Reynolds finishes 5th in Heisman Trophy balloting

ArmyNavy2015_073Navy senior quarterback Keenan Reynolds finished fifth in the 2015 Heisman Trophy balloting, which is the highest finish by a player from a Service Academy since Navy’s Roger Staubach won the award in 1963.

Alabama’s Derrick Henry won the award, while Christian McCaffrey of Stanford finished second and DeShaun Watson of Clemson was third.  Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield was fourth.  Reynolds finished ahead of LSU’s Leonard Fournette, Florida State’s Dalvin Cook and Ohio State’s Ezekial Elliott.

Reynolds has led Navy to a 10-2 record, the return of the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy to Annapolis with victories over Air Force and Army and a national ranking of #21.  Saturday he became the first quarterback in the history of the Army-Navy series to go 4-0 against its rival.

Reynolds, who won the Nissan Heisman House voting as the fan’s choice to win the Heisman Trophy, will leave quite the legacy in Annapolis including:

  • Most rushing touchdowns in NCAA Division 1 history (85)
  • Most touchdowns scored in FBS history (85)
  • 4,415 career rushing yards which is 3rd all-time for a quarterback. He needs 81 in the Military Bowl to pass Denard Robinson for first all-time
  • Most rushing touchdowns by a QB in a game (7), season (31), and career (85)
  • Most games scoring 3 TDs or more (15)
  • Most points in a career in FBS history (512)
  • Most 100 yard rushing games by active QB (21, next closest has 9)
  • Only Navy player ever with two 1,000 yard passing and 1,000 yard rushing seasons
  • Most passing touchdowns in Navy history (30)
  • 2nd in FBS this season behind only Derrick Henry with 21 rushing touchdowns

Navy fans can send Reynolds and his teammates out right on Dec. 28 by selling out Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium for the Military Bowl against a very good Pitt squad.  Tickets are on sale now at: http://bit.ly/1B0rxp5
