On August 25, 2015 at approximately 7:30 p.m. the Anne Arundel County Board of Education received a complaint of an inappropriate post on the “Blackboard” website. Blackboard is a county-wide website where students and parents alike can log on to check homework and other school related events. An unknown party posted lyrics to a song containing racially charged, and other offensive language. The School Board immediately took the post down upon notification.

On September 1, 2015, the School Board notified the Police Department of the incident and an investigation was immediately initiated. The Police Department is working with the State’s Attorney’s office to bring this situation to an acceptable closure. “One of the greatest aspects of Anne Arundel County is our diversity and the positive relationships that we share within our communities. It is unacceptable to every right-thinking member of our community that an individual would attempt to undermine those relationships. I find the sentiments in the post disgusting and appalling. We will continue do everything within our power to identify those responsible.” said Chief Timothy Altomare.

This is an on-going investigation and the Police Department is asking that if anyone has any information regarding this incident to please contact Detective Scott Seegers of the Digital Forensics Lab at (410) 222-3409 or (443) 336-7350.
